There are places we choose.
And then there are places that, somehow, choose us.
Grifoni Living 1500 was born from the meeting of a shared dream and a place that had already been part of my life long before I knew it.
When my husband and I decided to enter the world of hospitality, we were looking for a historic residence with a genuine story to tell. The answer came almost by chance, the very first time we stepped inside this sixteenth-century palace.
In that moment, I realized I had been there before. As a child, I used to spend my afternoons playing in what was then the old grain warehouse and in the surrounding gardens. Returning years later felt like a sign...as if this extraordinary place had been waiting for us.
From that day on, a remarkable restoration journey began.
Together, we carefully restored the entire outdoor area and transformed the gardens, bringing new life to spaces that had been neglected for many years. Every detail, from the choice of materials to each piece of furniture, was personally selected by us, with the desire to preserve the soul of the residence while creating elegant, welcoming spaces where history and contemporary comfort exist in perfect harmony.
Today, Grifoni Living 1500 is more than a collection of historic residences.
It is a place where memories, family history and passion come together. Every guest who walks through our doors becomes part of a story that continues to unfold, day after day.
.
Alongside our sixteenth-century residence stands a second home, different in style yet equally close to our hearts.
This late nineteenth-century residence once belonged to my grandmother and has always been part of our family's story.
Together, my husband and I lovingly restored it, transforming it into an elegant and distinctive home where the timeless charm of the late nineteenth century blends seamlessly with contemporary comfort.
For us, it represents a bridge between generations...a place filled with cherished memories that we are proud to share with every guest who chooses to stay with us.

Grifoni Living 1500 is located in the heart of the historic centre of San Miniato, one of Tuscany's most enchanting medieval hilltop towns, ideally situated between Florence and Pisa.
The origins of San Miniato date back to the Etruscan and Roman periods, but it was during the Early Middle Ages that the town began to shape its remarkable identity. An original document dated 713 AD, preserved in the Archiepiscopal Archives of Lucca, records the settlement of a group of Lombards who built a church dedicated to Miniato, the Christian martyr from whom the town takes its name.
Thanks to its strategic position along the ancient Via Francigena, one of Europe's most important medieval pilgrimage routes, San Miniato became one of the most influential centres in medieval Tuscany. For centuries, it was known as San Miniato al Tedesco, reflecting its close ties with the Holy Roman Emperors.
In 1370, the town came under the influence of Florence and gradually adopted the name San Miniato, which it still proudly bears today. Since 1925, it has been part of the Province of Pisa.
Throughout the centuries, San Miniato has welcomed many distinguished visitors, including the young Napoleon Bonaparte, who stayed here twice. A commemorative plaque on Palazzo Buonaparte still marks his visits.
Today, wandering through San Miniato means discovering more than two thousand years of history among medieval towers, Renaissance palaces, ancient churches and charming piazzas, all surrounded by the rolling hills of Tuscany.
It is within this extraordinary setting that Grifoni Living 1500 welcomes its guests, offering not simply a place to stay, but the opportunity to experience history while living in the authentic heart of Tuscany.

Every autumn, San Miniato comes alive with the aroma of the prized White Truffle. The medieval streets fill with local producers, renowned chefs and visitors from around the world, creating one of Italy's most celebrated food experiences.

Step outside your residence and find yourself immersed in the atmosphere of historic San Miniato. Stroll through the festival at your own pace, return home whenever you wish to relax, then head back out to enjoy an evening of fine dining, local wines and unforgettable moments.
